If you wish to show your home videos to your friends or relatives, you may encounter a few problems. For example, you may not find a computer close by or your videos may not be compatible with DVD players. To avoid such situations, you can use WinX DVD Author to convert your videos to DVD format. The software provides support for all popular video formats and it allows you to create and customize your own DVD menus.

WinX DVD Author is offered free of charge and it can be used on numerous Windows platforms, from Windows 98 to Windows 8. The installation process is fast and it does not involve any complicated settings. The software requires a 1 GHz processor or better, 256 MB of RAM or more and at least 100 MB of free disk space, which should not be too much for any modern day computer.

Creating a video DVD is a three-step operation. First, you must convert your videos, after which you may load the output files, customize your DVD menu and create the DVD folders. Finally, you may load your DVD folders in the program's built-in burner and write them on a disc.

The software comes with a compact user interface, which presents options for starting the aforementioned operations. All processes are prepared and executed on different windows and you can make various adjustments along the way. To convert video files, it is sufficient to load them in a list, specify an output path and encoder engine and click a button, but you can perform other actions as well. The software allows you to trim your videos, change their aspect ratios and set their output format to NTSC or PAL.

After converting your videos to VOB format, you can import them in the software's DVD compiler. A preview of the DVD's menu is displayed on the compiler interface and you can move its buttons anywhere you want, insert text, sound tracks and more. Imported videos will appear automatically on the menu preview and you can move and resize them. When you are satisfied with your menu, you can start burning the DVD folders on a disc or save them on the hard drive and burn them later.
